Marco Gonzales – SEA – LHP (49%) vs KC

Season Stats (16 GS) 7 W, 4.04 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, 80 K/ 20 BB in 91.1 IP

A former first round pick, Gonzales is putting together a decent season with the Mariners. He doesn’t have a standout K rate, but he does have above average control and a low walk rate. He does get just a little bit under a K an inning, and doesn’t give up too many home runs, so he has the ability to limit damage. In fact, while his ERA is above 4, indicators pin him as a mid to high 3 ERA, so he has been getting some bad luck. Expect decent ratios and Ks with a solid chance for a win against the Royals.

(The Royals rank 17th in the league with a .237 AVG and 27th in the league with a .664 OPS on the road this season. They also rank 16th in the league with a .246 AVG and 22nd in the league with a .692 OPS vs LHP).

Chase Anderson – MIL – RHP (46%) @ CIN

Season Stats (15 GS) 5 W, 4.37 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 63 K/ 34 BB in 82.1 IP

Anderson has struggled to replicate the success he had last season with almost a K an inning and a 2.74 ERA. While he has struggled at home, he’s actually been quite successful on the road. He holds a 3.12 ERA when away from Miller Park, and has managed to limit home runs to 1 every 18 innings. While he doesn’t have a lot of K upside, he does have a good chance at a W with the Brewers behind him.

(The Reds rank 13th in the league with a .249 AVG and 9th in the league with a .744 OPS at home this season. They also rank 8th in the league with a .251 AVG and 15th in the league with a .719 OPS vs RHP).

Mike Montgomery – CHC – LHP (28%) vs MIN

Season Stats (6 GS) 2 W, 3.39 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 40 K/ 19 BB in 61 IP

Montgomery has had to step into the role as a starter with the Cubs rotation banged up. Since stepping into a starting role, he has a 2.02 ERA in 35 innings. While his ERA indicators show he’s more of a 3.50-4.00 ERA pitcher long-term with about below average Ks, the one thing he does very well is get ground balls. He gets more than 50% ground balls, and with a great Cubs defense behind him, that is a recipe for success. Montgomery should have a good chance for the W with decent rations against the scuffling Twins offense.

(The Twins rank 23th in the league with a .231 AVG and 21st in the league with a .687 OPS on the road this season. They also rank 17th in the league with a .236 AVG and 26th in the league with a .676 OPS vs LHP).

Joe Musgrove – PIT – RHP (25%) @ SD

Season Stats (6 GS) 2 W, 4.59 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, 31 K/ 9 BB in 33 IP

Musgrove started his season late and did well, with 3 QS in 4 games. Musgrove has had less success with his last two games, with opponents getting the advantage of a very high batting average on balls in play. He has good K potential, at just barely under a K an inning, and has a great matchup against the Padres. He’s got a solid chance at a W, and should have decent ratios against San Diego.

(The Padres rank 24th in the league with a .235 AVG and 25th in the league with a .691 OPS at home this season. They also rank 27th in the league with a .232 AVG and 30th in the league with a .653 OPS vs RHP).
