Top 10 Catchers From Last Week (7/9/18 – 7/15/18)

An especially thin position, there were quite a few standouts performers. With injuries to big names like Gary Sanchez, you might want to take consider some of the hot bats of the week.

Here’s a look at standouts over the past week by Catchers.

1. Wilson Ramos – TB – C, 1B (88%)

.400 AVG, 4 R, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 0 SB

Season Stats: (78 GP) .297 AVG, 30 R, 14 HR, 53 RBI, 0 SB

Ramos continues to rake into the All-Star break, and while he is sitting out the game in DC, his injury is day-to-day and he should be returning soon. He is a valuable asset on the trade market and the Rays are well aware of when they can get the biggest return for him.

2. Salvador Perez – KC (91%)

.308 AVG, 2 R, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 0 SB

Season Stats: (73 GP) .221 AVG, 27 R, 13 HR, 41 RBI, 1 SB

The American League especially has been pretty thin at the catcher position but Sal has still shown he can hit for power. Even with the average dipping he still has some value at the position.

3. Omar Narvaez- CWS (7%)

.500 AVG, 3 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 0 SB

Season Stats: (52 GP) .286 AVG, 12 R, 3 HR, 17 RBI, 0 SB

Narvarez continues to fill in admirably for Castillo. Where the pop is lacking, he has provided a solid average and produced well in his 50 plus games.

4. Caleb Joseph – BAL (0%)

.353 AVG, 3 R, 0 HR, 4 RBI, 1 SB

Season Stats: (42 GP) .209 AVG, 11 R, 1 HR, 8 RBI, 1 SB

The Orioles don’t have much to play for, being almost 40 games behind in their division. The catcher position has been filled by at least 3 players and Joseph is coming back from injury, so it’s good to see a bright spot for Joseph and the Orioles.

5. Austin Hedges – SD (10%)

.421 AVG, 2 R, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 0 SB

Season Stats: (39 GP) .232 AVG, 9 R, 4 HR, 17 RBI, 0 SB

Hedges has some solid pop at the position, but has never maintained a great average. His BABIP is high and his K raet is at 34% so it is unlikely to be sustained.

6. Austin Romine – NYY – C, 1B (10%)

.250 AVG, 4 R, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 0 SB

Season Stats: (40 GP) .270 AVG, 18 R, 6 HR, 24 RBI, 0 SB

Romine has a shot at more regular playing time with Sanchez out and Romine himself coming back from an injury. He holds some decent power and average for a catcher and obviously has a great offensive context.

7. Jorge Alfaro – PHI (7%)

.375 AVG, 3 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 0 SB

Season Stats: (70 GP) .254 AVG, 22 R, 6 HR, 21 RBI, 0 SB

Alfaro went on a tear last week and hit as consistently as he has all year. At this point he needs some more polishing before he can be a long term fantasy asset.

8. Yasmani Grandal – LAD (84%)

.389 AVG, 2 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 0 SB

Season Stats: (80 GP) .251 AVG, 41 R, 13 HR, 47 RBI, 1 SB

Grandal continues to hit for power and had a nice hit streak last week. His strikeouts are done considerably from last year and there just aren’t many catchers who can hit 20-25 plus home runs in about 450 plate appearances.

9. Yan Gomes – CLE (39%)

.250 AVG, 4 R, 0 HR, 4 RBI, 0 SB

Season Stats: (69 GP) .247 AVG, 34 R, 10 HR, 32 RBI, 0 SB

After a few disappointing seasons offensively, Gomes has turned back the clock to 2014 and is showing he has 20 home run potential still.

10. Bobby Wilson – MIN (0%)

.429 AVG, 2 R, 0 HR, 2 RBI, 0 SB

Season Stats: (33 GP) .177 AVG, 8 R, 1 HR, 13 RBI, 0 SB

The 35-year-old veteran journeyman had himself a good week, which is a plus for him, considering a .177 average on the year in a struggling Twins lineup.
