Martin has had a solid career overall pitching on seven different teams over eight seasons, accumulating 9 W, 9 SV, 76 HLD, 3.72 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 264 IP/270 K/36 BB. While not a great strikeout pitcher has maintained a very low BB%, 2.2% last season, 3.1% career. John Schreiber, who had been setting up for Kenly Jansen suffered a shoulder strain and is expected to miss around 3 months pushing Martin into his 8th-inning role.

Bounced from LAD to OAK between 2014-2018, eventually signing with the Twins in in 2020 finding some success in 2021-22 leading to a trade to BAL in 2023. Looking like the Orioles latest player development success despite a limited track record (career: 211.1 IP/206 K/84 BB, 3.79 ERA, 1.29 WHIP). Coulombe’s savant page backs up his production despite poor fastball velocity. Over the past 5.1 IP/8 K/1 BB, 0.00 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, 2 HLD.

 

Scott McGough – ARI (5%)

2023/ 25 G: 0 W, 1 SV, 10 HLD, 3.58 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, 27.2 IP/31 K/11 BB

The presumed closer going into the season despite reports from manager Torey Lovullo claiming it would be a committee. Impressed in spring training 2.16 ERA, 0.84 WHP, 8.1 IP/9 K/2 BB and picked up the Diamonbacks first save of the season but after a poor start was demoted in favor of lefty Andrew Chafin. Chafin has continued to close sharing time with righty Miguel Castro allowing McGough to right himself in lower leverage. Over the past 16 IP/20 K/8 BB, 2.81 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, 5 HLD working the 6th-8th innings.  

 

Joel Payamps – MIL (3%)

2023/ 23 G: 2 W, 1 SV, 6 HLD, 2.22 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, 24.1 IP/28 K/4 BB

Limited track record appearing in 169 games over five seasons with solid 3.06 ERA in 217.1 IP. For the first time in his career has more K than IP behind an improved fastball/ slider combination.

Slider .194 BA, .209 xBA, 35.6 whiff%, 23.3 putaway%

 

Payamps has a slight increase in velocity up from 94.6 to 95, whiff % up from 22.6 to 23.9, BB% down from 6.6 to 4.1%, K% up from 17 to 28.6. Peter Strzelecki is the 8th-inning option with Matt Bush on the IL but Payamps has recorded 3 holds over the past three appearances.

 

Jovani Moran – MIN (1%)

2022/ 31 G: 0 W, 1 SV, 2 HLD, 2.21 ER 1.06A, WHIP, 40.2 IP/54 K/18 BB

Overall season numbers are poor but over the last 11.1 IP/13 K/4 BB, 6 HLD, 1.59 ERA, 0.79 WHIP. Ranks in 92nd percentile in whiff%, 91st in avg exit velocity, 98th in hardhit% but has an alarmingly high BB% at 13.4% up from 11% last season. The eventual return of Caleb Thielbar could impact Moran but for now, looks to have made improvements and is providing holds.
